Quetta Plus is a multi-lingual TV channel, broadcasting from Quetta, in the local languages of Quetta including Hazaragi, Pashto, Balochi, Brahui and Sindhi. It is an entertainment channel. When Hazaragi telecast of programs started around a year ago, hot verbal crossfires among started among the people.
Most of the people, during the live calls to the Hazaragi Programs, would start controversial discussions, objecting against the language of the presenters. Some criticized their Dari accent, others the Persian accent of the presenters, while some showed displeasure at their Hazaragi accent.
For some days I thought that cable connection at home might have had a problem since Quetta-Plus was not airing. I went to Star Cable Operator and asked him what had happened to Quetta Plus. I was shocked when I was told that the disappearance is not due to any technical problem but due to some public problems. When I investigated, I understood that there had been disputes about the language of anchorpersons on the Hazaragi Program.
During the live calls of the programmers, the people would object calling some one’s accent Quettagi, Dari, Persian, or Hazaragi, or their objection would be on the sleeves of girl programmers, saying, “Aghai astin tu chara raiza astha, roee khu chara thasha na muni.” At last, the organizers had only one way, and that was to finish broadcasting the Hazaragi program.
FM-105 is an FM entertainment radio station, broadcasting programs in all the local languages including Hazaragi/Dari/Persian. The same story happened with FM-105. But the officially named Hazaragi program has disapeared form FM-105, while programs in all other languages still continue.
