In the wake of the general elections on January 8, 2008, the Hazaras held an all-Hazara tribal jirga to decide on the candidates to represent them. The jirga, which was reportedly held in Kirani, attempted to lessen the large number of candidates currently running for various posts. In PB-6 Quetta-6 constituency, which includes Hazara Town and all adjoining areas, for example, as many as seven candidates are running for the provincial assembly seat. Read more about the candidates and their particulars in our previous report, Hazara Candidates Election 2008.
Details and the outcome of the jirga will be posted as updates come in.
Historically, there has always been multiple Hazara candidates running for each seat in almost every election. In the previous mayoral and city elections, the Hazaras are thought to have failed to garner any significant seats due to this.
