Quetta January 26: A conspiracy is behind the recent string of attacks on Hazaras, said General Secretary of Hazara Democratic Party Abdul Khaliq Hazara, speaking to the media about the assassination of Hussain Ali Yusafi.
He demanded that the provincial government step down as it has failed to protect the masses.
Khaliq Hazara added, “Twelve Hazaras have been killed in the past six weeks under an organized conspiracy to create hatred among masses of different ethnic groups and sects in Quetta city.”
He further added, “We addressed our concerns tothe Governor, Chief Minister and Corps Commander, but no one bothered to notice them. It seems as if the Government is dysfunctional or involved in ethnocide of Hazaras.”
The Aaj TV reporter asked Khaliq why a non-Hazara shopkeeper opened fire when asked to close down his shop, despite the reputation of the Hazaras and HDP as being non-violence and peaceful?
Khaliq Hazara said that it is part of the conspiracy. He said that the Hazaras have lost hundreds of lives in recent years but they have never targeted anyone or disturbed the law and order. There are some elements, he said, who prey on such incidents to create tension and mayhem.
He pointed out that the media’s live reporting on today’s demonstration did not reveal any Hazara engaging in vandalism or burning. He said it was other elements who did so.
Khaliq Hazara also pointed out that the police was shelling on non-Hazara miscreants who were busy with looting and burning.
“Our workers were shouting through loudspeakers asking for peace and calm,” he said.
Khaliq Hazara requested all secular political parties to observe the situation of Quetta and join hands in rooting out extremism.
“Otherwise,” he said, “Quetta would become another Swat and Hangu.”
